Why would it be ethically wrong to use a cow in a rodeo and yet right to have a juicy free range steak, for example?"" Because with my belief system, I just do not know what life form is the most important in the big picture. I know that is a "strange belief" to most and is hard to understand but I value ALL life. And I also know in this "life journey", is that for one to live, something has to die, be it animal or vegetable.(Not a very "intelligent design", IMO, but that's another story and I digress. <g>) And I don't know and I'm pretty sure nobody else really does either if plants do not have feelings, beliefs, thoughts, etc. They are just further "away" from us in 'design' and therefore much harder to understand. We are just now understanding animals and just barely studying the effects of music and other human activity on plants and their seem to be responses. And of course, we do not have a clue of their responses such as if they know and fear human or animal coming to harvest them. With this as background and a peek into my beliefs, I do NOT think it is morally right to use any outside life form for frivilous uses that harms or stresses them, unless it is absolutely necessary to survive which basically comes down to eating. I do not like catch and release fishing, vanity fur trapping, rodeos, etc. If a person needs to hunt and fish and eats them, that's fine but not for just pleasurable reasons... I still ride a little but not hard. We have a great dog for companionship. I do not like aquariums, zoos, caged birds etc. that hampers their lives needlessly.. So I get my kicks on my own. BTW, I do not eat much beef, chicken or fish. For a long time I ate hardly any. But things changed for us. This is long and rambling and probably contradictory and hard for me to explain. There is a lot more for me to say but I have to go now for awhile. I do hope it gives you a little insight into me and my beliefs. m
