Who knows, maybe even internet-archived by C-SPAN in next week or the far future??: (C-SPAN has everything archived, the only one in modern media history, all of US congress for 25 years) ===== Assassination Vacation from May 8, 2005 Sarah Vowell examined the assassinations of American presidents Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, and William McKinley in her book,"Assassination Vacation." The author, a self-described history junkie, set out to visit the landmarks, museums, and locales surrounding each of the presidential assassinations. Ms. Vowell's travels took her from Alaska to New York to Dry Tortugas Island (where several Lincoln conspirators were sentenced to prison) among other places. Along the way, the author writes about how presidential assassinations have become big business for historical tourism, benefiting places like inns and shops in each of the towns. ===== She was fun in 2002 too === The Partly Cloudy Patriot from December 8, 2002 From the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, author and National Public Radio contributor Sarah Vowell reads excerpts from her collection of essays, “The Partly Cloudy Patriot.” In the book, Ms. Vowell focuses her gift for humorous social commentary on American history. Distinguishing herself from the fair weather patriots disparaged by Thomas Paine, she analyzes past and current events for insights into American life. The essays contemplate a number of themes, including her happiness when touring the sites of the battles at Gettysburg or why people inappropriately compare themselves to civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. Ms. Vowell answers questions from the audience after her presentation. ======
