Martin has a lapel pin with that phrase on it. Right beside the one that says "Free OJ".

Right now the Liberal pollsters who nurture a select group of families in known liberal areas have Martin's liberals at 36% and the Conservatives at 29%. It is a well established fact that reports on poll results sway the electorate.

I guess the electorate could be that naive as to believe there is some good in re-electing people proven as crooked as the liberal party. How they could listen to that liar Corriveau for 2 minutes and believe a word he said, and why they would reject Guite's and Brault's testimony or why they would not believe that the Liberals have been operating like this since 1945 ... I will never know.

The CBC article about the Liberal dependency on ad firms that they have consistently rewarded since before the Second World war is IMHO proof positive that the Liberals have been acting in this way with ALL government contracts since the start, and that the sponsoship scandal just marks the first time they have been caught red-handed. How the leaders could not know about this since the start way back in the 1930's defies credulity. That the heads of the party were not the authors of this corrupt regime from the get-go is only for the most gullible to believe.

It is systemic, endemic, totemic and pandemic. Liberalism = corruption. Vote Liberal and Bob's your Uncle.

I know people who were declared conservatives who were in the construction business. I had worked for them building sewer lines way back when. In the Liberal riding they hailed from they never got a government contract after 1968 and their business collapsed. All the city contracts went to businesses that had supported Liberals. And I might add were forthright members of organized crime families to boot.

I have known the Liberals to be all about patronage and awarding contracts to their own since the dawn of the party's rise to power. I have seen through the tears in my own eyes what they did to Ontario and Alberta business since the 1960's. When the Liberals were largely a Quebecois organization under Trudeau and Chretien, Ontario business withered and died as taxes rose astronomically and the cost of living soared from riotous government spending. The Federal civil service ballooned in size 500%. Federal spending on pet projects of all kinds increased 20 fold. Transfers to the Quebec above and below the table outweighed transfers to Ontario by 2 to one. In those days Quebec got 2/3's of all the Canadian tax dollars from Ottawa. (Remember Trudeau saying "Quebec was a have not province".. what a crock of shit) Ottawa bought oil off Alberta for a CDN price and sold it to Romania for world prices. Alberta oil companies and Dome Pete gradually declined and Petro Canada rose out of the ashes. Ownership of our Arctic oil went to Amoco. If it was a resource, foreigners could own it before an English-speaking Canadian.

The average voter is a wage earner. Many come from foreign lands. They believe what the governments tells them in hand out literature. Coming from police states as many of them have, into a far more subtle police state that does not have wide spread civic unrest, they tend to gravitate to the stupidest political assertions that they might be oppressed by this person or that if they don't vote left of center.

The average business person in Canada has voted Conservative since 1867. If people who owned business and spoke English as their mother tongue were the sole voters, we would have had a landslide Conservative victory Federally since 1867. Just the voting west of Quebec would have elected Conservatives from 1867 until Chretien's win with Ontario Liberals. People thought that the Conservative could not carry the vote, and we would lose Quebec if we voted that way, or have a minority if we did not vote Liberal. Ontario, for the first time in its history flipped-flopped Federally.

It's not that I am crazy about Conservative governments. Anyone you elect will be a lawyer in a pin stripe suit for whom government is the end not the means. I never liked Davis, Harris, or Eves, and I was not crazy about Mulroney. I only voted that way because the alternative was too awful to contemplate. And it was.

I don't mind Harper. He is intelligent. Smart as a whip in fact. He speaks amazingly good French. I don't like it when he talks law and order crap etc, pandering to the fear vote, and I am not so sure that foreign policy should or need be rabidly pro-American. NAFTA is not my favourite concept, but trade wars with the states are a losing proposition. But he is an accountant. What we need to do is keep the money straight, and I have confidence that Harper has that uppermost on his mind. Take care of the dollars and the country will take care of itself.
