Social Security isn't actually bankrupt, Oral. It needs some tinkering around the edges, with slightly higher starting ages for benefits, and a higher cutoff wage for contributions, etc. The sooner we do this, the better, of course. Bush's plan was just a gift to the financial services industry, his big campaign contribution buddies. It was another cynical privatization ploy, because that is Bush's basic ideology. And I heard on the news this morning that he robbed the Social Security trust fund to finance his adventuring abroad, although I cannot do the research right now to independently confirm that, so I will just put it out there as a possibility.

Thank goodness the American public is not quite so gullible about their retirement money as they are about Iraq. Bush had a mandate on terrorism, but not so many people are confident with his domestic platform. So it looks like he has blown his political capital (and not a moment too soon is the way most Democrats feel about that).

I'm not the reason he was elected. A bunch of guys in some planes who took down the trade towers are the reason he was elected. You are confused, but thanks for trying to blame GWB on me- but you can't. He is the responsibility of the people who elected him- and the huge debt that is racking up, even as we speak, from money being poured down a gopher hole in Iraq, is money that could have been used at home to "save" programs in the US.

Everyone who elected Bush is to blame for that.
