RTS- I was commenting on the 5 year chart...I was not wrong
in my statement. Do you honestly expect the exceptional
technology industry growth that was seen in the 90's to
repeat? That was an exceptional event in history and won't
be matched any time soon, IMO. The semi industry was in
its adolescent/teen rapid growth stage during the 90's, it has now reached maturity and chips are now considered commodity
products with ample manufacturing capacity and an industry
that can quickly ramp production to meet consumer needs.
Do you remember when a high end CPU cost $1200 and a
coprocessor cost $800 for what is now an obsolete technology.
I recall being in an INTC fab and was shown a 6 inch wafer
with coprocessors that was valued at $100k per wafer... basically, a cassette of 25 wafers paid for a piece of semi
equipment and all of its spares and support....we are not
likely to see those kind of profits again, unless there is a
paradyme technology shift that is currently in development.
