You are right."Thin client solutions have generally failed." But the biggest barrier was/is trying to serve Windows apps, as the desktop is a Microsoft world. If you can't do this then no thin client solution will succeed in any significant way. Again I'm pointing out one piece of innovation Sun is going forward with. I'm not saying this is a panacea for Sun.

"do you have any concept of the history of Sun + thin clients?" Yes, I have worked with Sun products since about 1989. I'm using a SunRay right now.

But you misunderstand my posts. Who mentioned "betting on thin client solutions"? Not myself or Sun for that matter. I merely pointed out one particular product among many that I feel has an opportunity to contribute to Sun's profitability. Nobody is betting the farm on one particular product.

"So when the server goes down you have potentially 1000's of employees unable to work." If you architect systems properly using simple technology like clustering, you don't go down. Also look at grid technology. It is rapidly moving out of research environments into business. If you want 24x7 uptime, then architect your systems correctly. It is possible. Well, its certainly possible with Sun technology ;-)
