Hunters, fisherman, loggers, etc are some of the most concerned environmentalists on the planet. Hunters have done more for wildlife and habitat then probably all other groups combined. Look at what Ducks Unlimited has done for waterfowl. Or Pheasants Forever for the pheasant. I could go on and on.

You will find little wildlife in a fully mature old growth forest. You will find far more wildlife 2 miles away in the clear cut. There isn't any food or cover for animals in a mature forest. The floor of a mature forest is a desert for all practical purposes. Remember how the spotted owl was going to become extinct if we cut the old growth? Remember how much better the spotted owl was doing in the areas that did finally get cut?

<<Selective logging of some trees may be trickier and less profitable, but there is much less environmental degradation as a result. >>

Some situations are better for selective logging and some are better for clear cutting. Let the forestry experts decide which is better for which site.
