re: What was your point?

This part:

Workers didn't used to be a commodity. They had nice, modest well kept homes, and they has health insurance. The rich were not as rich as they are now, but on a average basis, we were all better off.

And this old post sort of applies: Message 21016278

I think the number of "rich" people in this country has climbed. But I think the number of "working poor" people has also increased. In the old days, it seems to me, more prople did "OK", some more "OK" than others. The bulk of people were in the middle somewhere, now the bulk seems to be at the extremes.

I know this is gray and fuzzy, not specific like you like. But the US has changed for the worse; there used to be a feeling that "we are all in this together", and "a rising tide lifts all boats". None of us were all that different.

Now, it seems like to me, it's every man for himself. You either reach the plateau, or you are doomed to a life of struggling just to keep your head above water.
