I recently drove one of those large U-Haul trucks across a good bit of the country. Got pulled over in Ohio for "speeding" even though I was going 62-63 in a 65 zone. I was treated as a suspect right off the bat. The trooper grilled me on the nature of my business, where I was headed, etc. About 2 minutes after he pulled me over a K-9 unit pulled up. That guy was itching to let the dogs out. But ultimately I was let go with a warning without having to open the back. I understand their concerns but I didn't appreciate their demeanor. In this instance the war on drugs was just a nuisance, but other people have some real horror stories. I'd rather deal with the oddball stoner than deal with this crap.

I hope, eventually, we will cut our mounting losses. Prisons should really NOT be a growth industry- when they are it tells you your society is sick. I think it will take gonads, but if we support the gonads, they will show up. We need to be vocal about wanting the gonads to stand up and legislate for us.

We had a local sport shop owner stopped for a traffic violation and had a pipe in plain view. When the officer asked if he could search the vehicle and was told sure he found a little baggy. Well it turns out the guy was busted in college 20 years ago for pot so guess what, he's a repeat offender. Mandatory 12 year sentence. The judge, cop, everyone were in total agreement that this was insane but their hands were tied. I know this policeman quite well and he informed me that he will never again write a ticket for pot and he said he is not alone in this view on our force.
