Yes, but at least they live in America, and therefore are entitled to be protected by our military might, etc. Some people do consider that an advantage. And I think most Americans are too close to the situation to see it with the same perspective that non-Americans see it.

Imagine being part of a nation that signed the Kyoto treaty, and realizing how out of proportion to America's size and population is the percentage of the world's pollution it causes, and just watching all that as the environment degrades. I think it would be even harder than being a frustrated environmentally conscious American.
