Longer. There probably can't be the equivalent of the Tet Offensive to serve as a turning point. Even if it goes into a full-blown civil war, we will just retreat into the firebases and fortify them. Now that means it really sucks for the guys and gals that get sent on patrols or to move supplies around. But the casualty rate probably won't ever get above a couple of dozen a day...

True, the casualty rate for the civilian Iraqis will far exceed that. But we haven't been paying much attention to them anyway.

You are very confident for someone reading news reports from a country where the news media is mostly hiding in the "green zone".

Do you consider it to be unreasonable to claim that the insurgents don't have a trained army of hundreds of thousands with tanks and other heavy weapons and weapons systems and the ability to sustain an offense against large American units?
