When I started school in Hales Corners, WI,, it was 3 rooms, 4 grades and one teacher per room. I'd like to see any of our current under 40 teachers handle that workload and still have students that learned to read, write and count without dead students at the end of the school year.

It also had the older students teaching the younger students, which helped to reinforce what they had learned. If one student is helping another younger student learn, there is no time for children to misbehave.

No need for Ridelin either.

Were teachers smarter, or were students more motivated, or was it a combination?
