Maybe you should go to work for Condi -- you are a master at denying what really happened...;-)

Nadine, what Newsweek SHOULD have done is outed the Pentagon source that went weasle. Then, the onus would be on the source, where it should be, and not Newsweek, who were just doing their jobs. I think it would even set a good precedent - lying and/or "set-up" sources will be outed, to explain their weasling.

WRONG. Newsweek did not retract the story which has been in the media for a very long time, they retracted the part about the military bothering to do an investigation into the incident.

1. Newsweek received the information from a Pentagon official who has given them good information in the past.

2. Isikoff of Newsweek made his hay going after Bill Clinton. Liberal? Try opportunist. Stop eating your own twits.

3. Newsweek vetted, this is unusual, the entire article before publication with a second Pentagon official. The official had problems with other aspects of the article but not with the Koran incident.

4. Newsweek published this in a small piece and no one, not the WH, not the Pentagon, not hyperventilating McClellan, not incompetent Rummy, not incompetent Rice, not Mayor of Kabul Karzai, NO ONE said ANYTHING for 11 days.

5. Who is saying that this incident FOR SURE didn't happen? Who is saying that FOR SURE this kind of thing doesn't happen as a matter of policy in Gitmo or Abu Ghraib?

6. McClellan now demands that Newsweek, a private media corporation, become the propaganda arm for the Republicans. This is blatantly unconstitutional and is pure fascist intimidation based on complete lies from the Bush administration.

7. Myers says the Newsweek article isn't the reason for the protests as they were well-organized and are for LOCAL POLITICAL PURPOSES.

8. Rightwingers can't read or understand the above as these distinctions are apparently too complex or subtle to be understood. Unfortunately, neither can corporate media who keep reporting this incorrectly.

This is why we're being worn down and killed in Iraq little by little in a desert meat grinder courtesy of the most incompetent administration ever. Ignorance.
