If the Evangelicals get their Messiah, supposedly he's going to give the Jews the option of converting or having the flesh flayed from their bodies. I'm not holding my breath for any Messiah.
I live in the middle of a bunch or Mormons, who have a living Prophet and Revelator, who is a fairly sweet old guy that currently seems very concerned about gambling among the faithful. The glamour of Texas Hold'em is seducing Mormons. I think David Koresh was going for the appellation, but got killed before his group reached the critical mass necessary for self - sustainablility.
The Messiah game seems to have a much lower success rate than starting a nightclub. History is littered with the corpses of failed, forgotten Messiahs.

If a Muslim were to write an Islamic version of "Glorious Appearing" and publish it in Saudi Arabia, jubilantly describing a massacre of millions of non-Muslims by God, we would have a fit

WTF does Kristof think they DO publish in Saudi Arabia, every day of the week? They teach hatred of Christians and Jews, advocate genocide, publish every medieval blood libel, predict the slaughter of infidels and the triumph of Muslims. They have already done it. Go to MEMRI, I can find texts by the score, from major (=government) Saudi sources.

But the New York Times doesn't publish it, so what does Kristof know about it?
