We've squandered a lot more than 320 billion I'm afraid. We're now stuck in Iraq unless we find a way to pull out. But how? Bush has us in quicksand over there. And to keep US casualties down, he has our people garrisoned in a tiny portion of the country where they cannot be effective at policing the rest of the country.

Hopefully the Iraqis can figure this out, but I hjave a feeling it will take about 10 years and maybe a civil war in between. Which we will be caught in the middle of.

Shades of Vietnam.

Re: Imagine squandering $320 billion and accomplishing absolutely nothing?!?

I know, I know. From the taxpayers point of view, the debacle in Iraq is pointless.

But cheer up. There's winners in this game and there is a real purpose being served.

The Carlyle Group reported that their profits doubled in 2004. Similar, though not quite so spectacular results are being reported by almost all military hardware and services contractors.

And then you have the real American entrepreneurial spirit shining through with fine Republican operatives like the Custer-Battles Company, which went from no revenue in 2001 to about $300 Million in business in Iraq security business in 2004. If this isn't an American success story, I don't know what is! Or, maybe I don't know what it is.... other than pure evil.
