They have been brutal in excoriating the three judges they are now letting through.

That's the way the game is played. If you intend to use a filibuster, the nominees have to be painted as demons.

The rhetoric will cool down now that the deal is in place.

Sounds political to me and not to be unexpected from politicians. As i just said, i think the republicans in the exact same situation in reverse would pretty much behave much the same way with the SC up for grabs.
