"The rhetoric will cool down now that the deal is in place."

I tend to agree and i think that the first SC judge to go will be Renquist who is a conservative and will be replaced by one without much opposition. Problem really crops up again if and when one of the swing judges resigns next. The dems at that time will react if a second conservative is chosen because the balance in the SC will be changed or so they think. I think if the tables were turned the Republicans would react the same way. Whether they would resort to the filibuster if they were in a minority is an open question. I suspect they would if they were the 45-55 minority party and the dem pres was selecting a very liberal judge to replace a conservative thus changing the balance in place. mike
