Pintea,

No doubt I have run into you before, perhaps under a different alias under another board. Whatever uncovered facts you can provide are welcome, although I'm not sure that what you've offered changes the picture of the project for me in terms of the risks, and I have never indicated that this project had anywhere near 100% chance to succeed or was without risk. The fact is, if it did not have risks, the stock would be trading far higher than it is because this is one of a very small number of large economic gold projects in the world that is ready to be developed. Certainly there will be a long and thorough environmental process addressing concerns of the Hungarians and others. Approval will take time, but I think that odds are eventually in its favour because the benefits are very large to Romania across a broad spectrum of affected groups and there is nothing that I can see that would be unaddressed if reason is allowed to prevail.

I have also visited Transylvania and even mountains within about 50 km of Rosia Montana (funny that we would find someone like you who has been to such a small place -- sure you're not in some way associated with the area's new Swiss cottage industry of making false claims of representing local interests and getting big donations for making wild unsubstantiated accusations about the mine project?).

I've seen some of the old architecture and fortified churches in the area between Oradea and Cluj. The region is quaint and it is sad that there is no money to preserve things well or to provide the kind of infrastructure and services for more tourists to come and enjoy what there is. What is unique about Rosia Montana in a region dotted with historic and often crumbling structures is the Roman period gold mines, and the fact that approvals have been received in this area is major progress for the mine development -- sad that these might be ruined but in fairness the development is making sure that proper work has been done documenting and understanding what is there that would not have been done otherwise. I'm sure not many would know or care about the mines were it not for the new project.

If I return to Transylvania again, I hope to find it in much less poverty. Without industry like the largest gold mine in Europe as a base, I don't know how the area can start to realize its potential in other areas like tourism or new economy industry. The people there have a lot of potential, and the status quo (without the mine) is not attractive.
