Re: And we should all take a stand against it

But "taking a stand against it" means first speaking out against it. And there are many people who will call you a bigot the minute you open your mouth.

Re: And before we get too self righteous about the rest of the world, lets remember what goes on in our little corner...
HOW MANY ABUSED
WOMEN ARE THERE IN THE U.S.?

That is a red herring....there are laws in place and organizations ready to deal with this in the USA.

For what it is worth the practice is widely condemned by the Islamic authority.

then tell me, what will happen to the perpetrators of these acts of murder by the Islamic authority? i realize depending on where the killing takes place the perpetrator will be criminally charge, but what does the Islamic authority do to a man who practices 'honor killing' and is exposed?

news.bbc.co.uk

btw...

please try to start some type of 'immoral equivilency' argument based upon the fact that spousal abuse goes on just about everywhere in the world....rarely do those instances of abuse arise out of religious justification...the issue here is how many stem from religious teaching (albeit 'condemned' by islamic authorities)

note from the article:

But there has been an increase in general lawlessness in Palestinian areas. And in male-dominated conservative Palestinian society, if a man commits an honour killing he may get off scot-free.

What's the point of using 10 year old data?

You should know that crime in the United States is down considerably from the "1995 National Crime Victimization Survey of the U.S." If you look now, you will probably find that the violent crime rate in the United States is lower than many European countries (except for homicide using a gun).

Since that 1995 report, the rate of violent crime in the United States has fallen by over 50%. The rate of rape has fallen by more than 50%, robbery has declined over 50%.
