Charles, Please read the book Beyond Oil - A View from Hubbert's Peak. The author states that the problem is in the transistion - not the long term. The transistion period is the time to adjust - a time where a bit of advanced planning culd have mitigated the pain. Now - some blame Bush for this. I submit to you it is the entire political class. The solution lies in policies that benefit the energy industry. Policies that raise energy prices. Do you know of any place the opposition is in favor of these things? The opposition is the party of NO - they share the blame for any pain to come.

The solutions to Peak Oil are many and at hand. They only take political will to implement.
