I'll answer your question one at a time. What would the bad guys think if they found out how strongly some Americans are arguing to keep this war memorial in the form of a cross on federal land? I couldn't care less what they would think.Would they not think "Christian army"? I don't know what they would think, but if they thought that, I don't believe they would be justified in doing so.Maybe even riot over it? If they did that they most certainly would not be justified in doing so.Is it not unpatriotic to leave them with the impression that we are Christian warriors by going to the mat for this war memorial in the form of a cross? The form of this question begs the question, making an assumption, not necessarily justified, that supporting this particular war memorial would leave them with the impression that we are Christian warriors. As such, it deserves no answer. My assumption would differ: that support for the war memorial has nothing to do with fighting a war as a religious war. And therefore would in no way be unpatriotic.Or is making our army look like a religious war only a problem when the lefties do it? IMO, making our army appear to be fighting a religious war would be a problem, and wrong for our country, no matter who does it. And incidentally, with respect to the following line in your post, from Card:If it is ever perceived as a war against Islam, then we have lost. The world has lost." Doesn't it depend on who thus perceives the war? And how many thus perceive the war? I am reasonably certain that many hundreds of thousands if not millions of people, both Muslims and not, already so perceive it. That really cannot be helped, can it? If the perception was so broad as to constitute a worldwide majority, or even a significant majority, particularly in non-Muslim countries, then I would certainly agree with Card's statement.
