It's way too early to give up, Mike. In an age of child-like "I want it now expectations," and other instant expectations, however short term, I'm continually surprised that some folks don't have more patience and perspective.

The radical Islamists have all sorts of time. They have been at "this terror stuff" for years, and from the looks of things, will be working towards the downfall of Western Civilization for many more.

The more people want things to happen instantly, the more that type of thinking works in their favor.

He still has time but it does not look good as folks start the positioning for 2008.

My understanding is that Bush is not a workaholic. He is in bed by 9PM. While at the ranch, he likes to do ranch chores and of course he likes to exercise. Bill Clinton in contrast (although not very disciplined either) worked around the clock. He did not take exercise seriously. He probably jogged only so that he could stop at MacDonalds and he would occassionally go to the golf course taking a lot of mulligans. He was a policy wonk. Knew all the issues and immersed himself in all aspects of the Presidency. From what I read, he was still working on stuff as they physically moved him out of office. I didn't like him while he was in office with all the Lewinsky stuff, but since being out of office I have really got to liking him.

Bush is far more likely to delegate. IMO if anything is going to get done, it will be left up to Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Karl Rove.

Eisenhower was also good for delegating responsibilities. He left things up to John Dulles, Charlie Wilson, and Sherman Adams. I don't know how Nixon got into the mix of things. Eisenhower didn't seem to like him at all. However, I always liked Ike.
