I am a Texan, but LBJ was one of the most devious, hateful, and crooked, politician that ever lived inside the loop. The only reason that he was selected as the Vice President candidate to run with JFK, is because Kennedy needed the southern vote, and that Johnson knew where all the skeletons were buried, and whose closet they were in. He black mailed every Senator, and Representative, that he had a dosier on, and there were very few that he didn't have the goods on. Nixon got our troops out of Nam at a great loss, but that did end our participation in that country. What you don't seem to understand, is that when you don't win a war, you have lost it. All those American troops were killed, or wounded, for nothing because SVN was taken over by NVN, and those people were worse off than they were before we got involved. Without a doubt, that was a lost war for us. It has never been confirmed that Nixon was aware of the Watergate intrusion, but his major fault was that he tried to cover it up. If he had opened up to the American public, and said that a serious mistake was made by those that supported him, and apologized to the nation, it is probable that he would not have been in fear of impeachment, and would have finished out his term. The American people can forgive a person that confesses, and asks for forgiveness, but will not forgive a lying, sneaky, person. That is why so many people became disillusioned with Clinton. When he made his declaration that he "did not have sexual relations with that woman", he was lying through his teeth, and everybody knew it. If he had just fessed up, the people probably would have forgiven him, but he lied under oath, which is a crime. His "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" is that if he had confessed, Hillary probably would have killed him.
