Z, Actually, I took a class in Old Testament analysis once, and it seems pretty obvious that at some point, the Jews did believe in more than one god.

Was this a secret? It's right there in the OT.

The Jews had a family god, mother ,father and child god. Then they went to Egypt and ran into RA, thus changing to a one god system. Mankind 's religions have all changed over time.

My lack of knowledge does not suggest stupidity. The impact of slavery on the North was minimal. In fact, several northern states had banned slavery at the time of independence, 80 years before the Civil War:

"At the time of the Continental convention of 1787, Vermont (1777), Pennsylvania (1780), Massachusetts (1780-), Connecticut (1784-), and Rhode Island (1784-) had taken actions to bar slavery in their states(2). However, most of the delegates from the South owned slaves. "
