do you think age had anything to do with it? have neighbors who moved here two years ago from mid west for job. he got laid off two months ago. been all over the country on interviews. get too qualified ,, not qualified enough. he is in mid 50's to late 50's. i assume is not his experience holding him back but age. Large corp are not going to hire someone in his age group because of potential health issues that come with people that age. they also have no way to determine how productive a person really is or how well they will take direction , suggestions as they are really set in their ways to accomplish things.

This man has tremendous programming systems experience yet no luck , get interviews but usually gets opposite reasons for no job offer. that is except telling him after seeing the person he is just too old , maybe a little heavy for their idea of what they are looking for. i expect if the labor market was very tight and project manager under the gun he could care less what someone looked like or age , just if they could get the job done. I doubt we are back there like during the boom.

What is your age? after 50 no matter how qualified you are no one will hire you - worst if you are better than the potential boss just forget about it period. The "over qualified " responses start at age 40
