Currently, we are talking about illegal drugs. The items you mentioned are all legal items.

However, we also are talking about alcohol, and it is now a "legal" drug. Perhaps people want to continue believing that alcohol abuse doesn't affect the community they live in....and therefore will continue to ignore it.

Do some research on illegal drugs, including marijuana, cocain, LSD, heroin, meth, and all the etcs....See how much damage is caused to not only the abuser, but to his/her community.

Go to your Middle and High Schools, and just check around....you will see that we in the US have a HUGE problem, and people are by in large, excusing that problem, because they would rather not believe there is a problem. Ostrich mentality, so to speak.

I think you and I differ fundamentally on the extent to which government should provide treatment and other assistance to people who are choose to use legal products and suffer harm by doing so.
