Here is the sad truth - no one can afford to live by their ideology since we have to pay so much in taxes. I can't afford to piss off and hope the world becomes a better place or I won't be able to take care of my responsibilities. We all need jobs to pay for our homes, cars, families, etc... Hence, I live by the reality of my condition which tells me work hard and make as much money as it takes to pay all of the bills.

Just because people have to comply with the law does not mean the free enterprise does not exist. Would you want to buy ice cream from a person that cannot meet the health codes? Compliance is an essential part of free enterprise or you would have a melt down in quality. Demo permits, building permits, build out costs, inspections, certificates of occupancy, labor costs, utility costs, equipment costs, food costs, insurance costs - oh yeah, you have to pay the rent too. You have to be crazy to start your own small business. You have blown at least $100K before you even know it. What happens a year later when you are still waiting to become cash flow positive?

However, it is important that people believe in the opportunity to invest in free enterprise. It is actually very expensive enterprise, but you are free to go ahead if you are brave enough to give it a try.

Geode, I think you haven't met one who can live by their ideology because they are all stuck in the prison of the kleptocratic suffocatocracy. It's hard to demonstrate liberty from inside a concentration camp. I don't think any of those in Auschwitz demonstrated libertarianism either. One has to be free to choose what to do to live by one's ideology.

Maybe you could approach it from the other end and tell me if there is anything that shouldn't be controlled by Big Brother.

You like regulation, control, permits, conscription, compulsion, central authority, government ownership and so on and on and on, presumably you being the one in control. I like freedom, meaning I am deciding for myself. What's annoying is bossy people like you telling people like me what's going to happen to them - like, "Get in the army and start saluting and no, we aren't going to pay you much at all, but you can go in the front line while we, the bosses, stay back here and organize more of you and sales of the oil. Heck, somebody has to bank the profits".

I experienced free enterprise in a Tijuana restaurant. I ate my chips and dip, then my enchaladas, then had a beer. As I drank my beer, I watched my waiter pour the dip from my table back in the big pot of dip and dump the uneaten chips back in the chip bin. Very efficient, but not necessarily hygenic.
