My strategy is to hope for a soft landing on these issues, that the Chinese and others who hold T-bills as their reserves don't put the screws to us.

Have you read Tom Clancy's The Bear and the Dragon? I think Tom gets it right on their being way more dependent on this relationship than we are - after all we can get everything we buy from China for only slightly more from somewhere else. They cannot find a ready replacement market of even half our size - it simply doesn't exist.

But rather than postulate on who has who over a barrel, think of it as co-dependence.
