I think his attitude is fairly prevalent. It presumes that the US will always be on top and doesn't have to worry about future, unpleasant reactions to its current policies and behavior.

Oh sheesh, stop projecting your biases into my opinions. All I said was that the US's responsibility is more to do what is in the best interest of the US than to ensure Iraqi security. That doesn't imply anything about the US always being or worrying about the future.
