I believe in a majority of these platforms and it would describe my definition of a conservative.constitutionparty.com Is it a "FISCAL CONSERVATIVE", someone who believes in low, fair taxes, smaller government, balanced budgets and fiscal prudence? YesIs it a "RELIGIOUS CONSERVATIVE", someone who is willing to enable a bigger, more Authoritarian government so it can be called upon to enforce their religious dogma on other Americans, restricting individual freedoms in the name of particular religious precepts? That is the socialist's definition of a religious conservative. Is it a "LIBERTARIAN", someone who believes that bedrock individual liberties should not be taken away by a government, and that the founding values of liberty our nation began with are the true 'conservative' beliefs that we have gotten away from? I would say that is part of the conservative philosophy. Look at the liberty committee. They are conservatives that pledge to follow this philosophy. thelibertycommittee.org Unfortunately, not all Republicans are true conservatives. (i.e. John McCain, Olympia Snowe.) Is a "CONSERVATIVE" someone who rejects new things, new ideas... in favor of the old, the tested? No, There is nothing wrong with new ideas as long is stays in line with the constitution. However, most "new" ideas do not do that. See the New Deal, SS and the Great society as examples. Is it someone who looks to the past for inspiration, or to the future? My personal opinion is to look to the past. With the Constitution being subverted consistently, the future looks dreadful. We are becoming a more socialistic society with every passing day. Is a "CONSERVATIVE" someone who is in favor of foreign military 'adventures', or someone who is against them... looking to the words of our founders who spoke out against foreign entanglements? We should not be in "foreign military adventures" unless the condition is a threat to the United States. I do believe that Iraq was a threat to the US and we are justified to be there. However, an act of war should have been declared like the Constitution states.
