My point was that we seem well into the start of (what is likely to be) a long, extremely bloody civil war in Iraq.

After pulling all the strings, and reaping most of the benefits for *decades*, the minority (but still sizeable and extremely well-financed and armed) Sunnis are unlikely to accept Democratic institutions that necessarily relegate them to minority status and powers....

Or, at least, not until they suffer unmistakeable defeat.

(It is also possible that the bubbling civil war will ultimately devolve to 'ethnic cleansing' modes of behavior... and or an exodus of Sunnis to neighboring Sunni nations, or semi-partition of Iraq.)

Iraq is, after all, a very *unnatural* nationstate... with borders artificially drawn by the Brits.
