Next time you are on a message board and you see a post by somebody whom you think is a troll, and you feel you must reply, simply write a follow-up message entitled "Troll Alert" and type only this:

The only way to deal with trolls is to limit your reaction to reminding others not to respond to trolls.

By posting such a message, you let the troll know that you know what he is, and that you are not going to get dragged into his twisted little hobby.

If you don't care to have people respond negatively to your posts, don't make such outrageously stupid remarks in them.

And don't send PMs to people that say such ironically idiotic things as "your insulting post just makes me never want to speak to you" and then put them on ignore so they can't PM a reply. That is just cowardly.

And in case you missed it, I agreed with you that the other poster who suggested you should be beaten to a pulp for your insensitivity was dead wrong. You were insensitive, of course. He was right about that. But no good Marine would beat you to a pulp for it or condone anyone else doing such a thing. On that he was over the line. Any good Marine would, of course, defend your right to be an insensitive clod.
