Yeah, I think the 53% was last years or 2002 number.

The product stats evidently will go all over. At one time Claifornia was importing our 'Special' gasoline from FINLAND.

I think when Europe had a cold winter last and the US wasn't too bad we were exporting heating oil.

I'll be happy if we can get the general assignment reporters to understand the difference between gasoline and natural gas.

There was a questionable statistic in the text. The article stated that the U.S. currently imports 53% of its oil. I believe that to be in error, if one includes product as well as crude oil in the calculation. As of late 2004, T. Boone Pickens quoted a figure of 62% of U.S. petroleum products currently being imported. I believe Pickens is closer to reality than the SP Times reporter.
