I would expect that many Rep. voters would choose him over clinton or kerry. Should also include Gore and Edwards. Lets throw in Lieberman and Gebhardt too.

False dichotomy. To even get that far, McCain has to win a lot of Republican primaries running against people like Rudi Giuliani and Va. Senator George Allen, whom Republicans DO like.
