i doubt Bush could have held support by the time he got 500,000 men to go into Iraq. If he had to continue to build for several more months i think the politics would have been different. troops not coming down from Turkey screwed them up big time. imo

All we needed was for the 4th Infantry Division to be able to cross Turkey to get to the battlefield on time and introduce themselves to the four republican guard divisions in northern Iraq.

At no time have we needed 500,000 troops. But the point is moot. We cannot deploy 500,000 American troops in any single geographical area.
Clinton made sure of that.

You need enough cops to prevent a riot or they are too spread out. Not enough cops is what leads to more violence as cops panic when they feel threatened. More troops would have made things better. And if we couldnt field 500K troops we certainlly could have gone with 300k. Letting the looting go by rummy was exactly the opposite tack that giuliani took when he dealt with quality of life crimes in NY. Lawlessness spreads. TF made alot of sense today. MY one question which has gone unanswered is whether his suggestion to double increase forces now makes sense? I buy that we are at the tipping point. Stuff may get better over there but the perception here now is quagmire. Want to blame the media go right ahead but i think it has more to do with fear of draft which is being talked about here as well as on Main st. Of course Kirk has already called it treason in one of his posts. What can i say. Mike
