Where there is no proof, I think you have to give the man the benefit of the doubt. If it were a truly physically abusive relationship she probably would have had traces of that on her body. I hope that the courts did their best- they certainly seem to have done their best, and the Schiavos had more than their day in court, they had several days in court, and spent God knows how much taxpayer money on one ex-person. That such a situation could be allowed to waste so much money, which could have helped so many people, is very sad. I hate waste. Waste of good lives; the waste of a bad death; the waste of lingering when real life is gone; the waste of fighting over matters that can never really be resolved. In many ways the Schiavo matter has wasted many lives, much money, and fixated our country on an issue that really is not as important as other issues we should have been concentrating on, and it was too bad.

her parents continue their smear campaign on him,

That's what it is. There is absolutely no evidence that he had anything to do with her death. For the first 10 years after her death, Michael and her parents got along very well, they said on many occasions that they were greateful to him for the excellent care he took of Terri. It's only after he decided it was time to terminate life support that they started all this nonsense.

It's time that they accepted that their daughter is dead and moved on with their lives. They seem, sadly, to have no life of their own left. It must be really hard to be their other children and know how much of their concern is still with a dead child and therefore how much is still taken from their living children.

They could use a really good counselor.
