I agree. I think Congress should set some overall priorities, like reducing oil consumption by 50% within 15 years. But I heard on the radio that a similar proposal was voted down. What the hell is wrong with our Congress people anyway? They all seem to have their heads in the sand.

If they set an overall priority like that, then we can set up alot of the details that help to achieve it, which would have be very wide ranging: increased nuclear power plant production, electric cars, hybrid cars, fuel cell cars, tax credits for consumers, tax incentives for business investment, etc.

BTW, the head of Toyota said that he was worried about GM going bankrupt, because he feared an American backlash. As a result, he wants to increase prices on Toyotas to reduce demand for his products. That is unbelievable. If I was President, I'd call Toyota's CEO and tell him that if he wants to help this country he should DECREASE prices on hybrids and increase prices on every other car. In addition, I'd give him political cover by telling him I will block any effort to favor GM or any other American car industry that gets in the way of sales of hybrid or any other alternative energy vehicle.
