I think people must see that an article is about mad cow disease, and just not read it, or something. That is the only thing I can think of to explain why Americans are still eating factory farmed beef. So I reposted the first sentence of your article above, at the beginning of my post.

I guess mad cow is one way to get rid of a lot of factory farm advocating conservatives! But it is a long, slow, painful withering kind of death, and I wouldn't want anyone to have to endure that. I notice that the FDA was supposed to do something about contaminated feed! But of course as you point out, it is an agency tainted with graft of all sorts and is not to be relied on for anything at all which is helpful to the public health.
