hcm1943,

This might not work for you but it fixed my problem. I too had an SMC wireless card (2635W) in my laptop..it gave me lots of problems. I finally replaced it with a Netgear MA521. Since then no problem..also the Netgear card was much easier to install and get up and running.

In the the meantime I've bought numerous Trendnet (Trendware) PCMCIA and PCI wireless cards..they are inexpensive and they work as well or better than the big guy's cards. Easy to install and set up.

Since you've got a G router I'd think about springing for $11.50 after rebate and getting this card...read the user comments.

If you want to stick with a B card..this is $9.00 after rebate.

You can mess with the SMC card and maybe find a solution...I tried and had no luck. I've found the SMC cards to be a pain. I never could get mine working reliably.
