Saddam screwed up, he didn't win.
I don't think we wanted him to win, just not lose. What would we want a superstate (Iran-Iraq) in the ME for? The could take Saudi and control the oil spigot.

So, he had to be taken out and a new plan implemented. Taking Saddam out took fifteen years and two small wars and that's where we are now.
Uh, no. We're stuck in the 2nd small war wondering what to do NOW.

In fact one might even say the US has been hoisted on its own petard.
Yeah. Wasn't it nice back when the good guys wore white hats and the bad guys wore red?

Makes you long for the Evil Empire. I think this is called "Be careful what you wish for; you might get it."

RE: "it looks like the US has its hands full with all kinds of bad guys in Iraq right now"

What we have is Iraqi patriots defending their women, children and homes, from an invader who has destroyed their homes, and murdered their women and children. No real man would do differently under similar circumstances.

The one story you will never see mentioned by the US media is how many Iraqi women are being raped on a daily basis by US troops. Nice people who never go beyond where the street lights shine don't want to think about such things. It's ever so much more convenient to believe that people become "terrorists" because they "hate our freedom", rather than that they took up arms against us because so many of their daughters have come home raped and beaten by our troops.

Or does anyone really believe that with headline news of every other sort of atrocity, and with countless accounts of officer candidates raping women at US military academies, that nothing of the sort is happening in Iraq while troops are kicking in doors looking for "insurgents"?
