"It would be an important distinction if you personally are opposed to abortions but out of principle you defer to the woman's right to choose"

I think that abortions offend the bias that most of us have toward life in general. Having said that, IF a pregnancy is unwanted and IF the prospective mother has decided to abort (rather than suffer the trauma of pregnancy and adoption out)--THEN sooner is better than later for the mother--and is less offensive to the natural value we place on potential offspring.

At the stage of an egg, there is Nothing to offend unless one is religious. And one presumes that they will do whatever they think is right for whatever reason.

In a tolerant and compassionate society that encourages early termination of unwanted pregnancies--we will have far less late term abortions or bathroom deliveries. In such a society the only late term abortions would be by reason of severe abnormalities.

As an aside--I think living life as a human being has everything to do with having a mind. If the brain or nervous system never develops or if it ceases to function--it is only gratuitous to call it human existence. And for those who think an egg has a "soul" AND also believe that God does not look after souls...well, they have a very low opinion of God.
