I look at the data on criminal assaults, and the liklihood of alcohol being a factor, and I find I cannot see the justification for pot being illegal while alcohol is legal- especially since, as was the case with alcohol, a large percentage of our population already uses the substance. Pot has significant health benefits, and quite frankly I'd much rather see people get mellow on pot, than get aggressive on alcohol- even with the risk factors. I've never known anyone who smoked pot the way people smoke cigarettes- so I think the cancer risk of pot is probably far less than either inhaled tobacco or chewed tobacco- in fact, I think I saw some data on this. Since my father was an alcoholic, alcohol seems pretty destructive to me. Not only did alcohol ruin a lot of my father's life, it killed him when he had his stroke, because his liver was too wrecked to handle the blood thinning drugs he needed with his open heart surgery.

Do you have any studies from reputable sources that show pot is more dangerous? Because all the studies I have seen seem to have concluded that both pot and cigarettes pose a greater health risk, or are more addictive, or are more implicated in crime, or that alcohol is much more dangerous in terms of highway incidents, etc...
