"Is a fertilized egg a person?"

It is most certainly a new Human Being that is biologically and genetically distinct from the mother. Many of the definitions of "person" that I have seen, have varied widely. Most of them if applied consistently, would eliminate someone who obviously is a person and appear to be entirely subjective and arbitrary. It seems to me that as a materialist, you would look for a material and scientific answer to that question, rather than an subjective, emotional one. In that case, the argument that all Human Beings are Persons by nature seems pretty strong.
