I am sure there are some conservatives who care about the troops. I don't think they happen to be the conservatives in power, but I am sure some of the conservatives in congress truly care- the problem is translating that care in to some meaningful policies. I don't think enough liberals in congress are involved in this issue either- there are a few, but should there not be a majority clamoring for the products that will protect the lives of young Americans no matter who makes those products? We spend billions and billions on a war to make the Iraqi people better off (according to Bush, anyway)- I think charity begins at home, and that our soldiers are more important than the Iraqi people. I have compassion for the Iraqi people, but the people of my own country do come first- which made me against the war, and which now makes me very much in favor of materials that would protect our American men and women better in the field. I fail to see how anyone either for or against the war, could not be in favor of protecting American soldiers. If you were against the war, you can't blame the average soldier for it, but the administration- and soldiers do not "deserve" to die for the stupidity of the decisions of the CIC. If you were for the war, and you voted for Bush, you are more responsible for this war than anyone else, and as such every death in this war is attributable to the policy you favor, thus should such a person should want to minimize deaths, I would think. So I can't see how this should be a divisive issue.
