What liberal on this thread is defending the Saudis?

Iraq is a once-in-many generations power grab. It's a chaotic mess because Bush toppled the government and left a power vacuum.

It doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to draw connections between the Bushes, OBL, the Saudis and the terrorists on 911 and in Iraq. The Bushes-Sauds-bin Ladens are intimately connected and never in a good way.

The US has always meddled in other people's affairs. We encourage people like OBL to fight against the soviets, we encourage people like Saddam to right against the Iranians, we do this and that and then blame others for the consequences.

Why does Bush get on the TV every week and say: we need to reduce our dependence ON OIL foreign or otherwise by conserving. Walk, bike, carpool, inflate your tires, don't carry extra stuff, take mass transit, consolidate your errands...we need to be smart and conserve until we find alternative sources of energy.

Why doesn't he say that? Why does he lollygag with Condie at ballgames while people are dying for his illegal war for oil profiteering?

OBL is one person with a cadre of individuals that number, what, maybe in the thousands? It's Bush, with his power to move millions, who has made OBL's dreams come true. Instead of pursuing him into Afghanistan with hundreds of thousands of troops and raining prosperity and the modern age into Afghanistan, he failed there and turned around and failed again in Iraq.

There will always be OBLs some with actual greivances (why, for instance, is there 30% unemployment in the Kingdom? Why?). It's up to governments to not react badly to whatever they do.
