re: Its amazing to me that Elroy can make statements like the above. Not that its all that important at this stage of the game but its apparent that some Americans are having trouble understanding why things are screwed up in Iraq. They get that its screwed up but they can't seem to figure out why.

So true. It's a mindset. They come from a real simple world where the US can do no wrong, where we somehow have the moral right to impose our will anywhere in anyway; we are totally, 100% morally superior. It's our (their) birthright.

I thought that way as a kid. Its hard to believe someone could still feel that way as an adult. I love my country but I know we are not infallible nor always good.

When you come from that "place", it's hard and painful to come to the realization that we are fallible. That all those folks are dying for nothing. That the adventure was not even slightly honorable from the get go.

It's just starting to seep in; it will take years.

That's hard to read esp. for those of us who knew it was wrong from the get go. People are losing their lives because these people can't deal with reality. Its very sad!

This is your understanding of my view? Let me help you understand your misconception. I don't say coalition actions in Iraq are morally correct because they were initiated by the US. I say they are morally correct because a population living under an unelected oppressive leadership deserves to be liberated and given their freedom. It's not very complicated, and that's my view. Its the action itself, not the initiator of the action, on which I base my view of the morality of the action.
