OT Hi Joseph, cool, so their hybrid is available now!

On an unrelated note, have you see any type of equipment for cars that warn drivers of traffic slowdowns, that I could buy?

For example, am going down to LA on a regular basis and the traffic patterns there are very different from the Bay Area - in LA everyone will be driving 65 mph but then suddenly around a corner the traffic is at a dead stop. Really dangerous the sudden change. I'd like to find something to purchase that would forewarn me - not sure if such a thing is available?

Microsoft research group has some software they bought from Natl Geog that's great for outdoor GPS mapping and some people I know marry it to their GPS devices. But what's missing for me, is a "live traffic search" of some satellite feed that's married to static road software by the long/lat coordinates. A Google "live traffic search" feature married to MS GPS map would be the perfect solution, but something tells me those two are never going to do anything constructive together. But maybe this solution already exists and it's as simple as finding out who sells it - I wonder if police departments have some expensive solution they buy that's available?

In a nutshell, LA traffic patterns are sporadic and it would be great to have some device that forewarns me when traffic flow is at a dead stop around the corner. There's this cool Yahoo mobile advertisement - the bicyclist bumps into a stationary pole when biking. But that's how driving in LA feels like - you never know what stationary object is looming around the corner. For a minute, I thought they were advertising such a solution to my problem, so I got excited. Turns out they were just advertising their search feature, but unfortunately not a search on traffic patterns. When you think of 50,000 people dieing from traffic accidents, it's rather barbaric we don't have better technology for driving offered by someone, anyone, that I could buy.

Oh, and if you drive slow in LA, you're dead meat - I had this one person in the car behind mine get extremely irate that I had the audacity to drive only 60 mph after we all had come to a dead stop. He raised his fist and all, spooky, that's basically when I wondered, maybe there's a safer way to drive in LA - some device?

Regards,
Amy J
