I was thinking about getting a Dell, but Jarvis scared me.

I used a laptop for a couple of weeks while waiting for my Dell desktop. I didn't like the keyboard or the mouse. Attached my old ones from my desktop to it.

My objection to laptops is the heat buildup. Just not enough room to dissipate it. That is why the Compaq desktop I had broke down. It had a very small case and burnt out.

My wife and I both have Dell 600M's with built-in Wi-Fi. In 18 months, the only problems we've had have been:

1) She backed over her briefcase with notebook in it.

2) I had problems dropping the wireless connection in our house, which I ultimately got fixed. It turned out not to be a hardware problem, but a glitch with the internet configuration in Windows XP Home.

I'd buy a Dell notebook again.

Sager? Never seen that model. I'd stick with a name brand: Dell, Sony, Toshiba, etc.

You couldn't pay me to use a HP/CPQ

My 600MHZ Quantex laptop is still working like a champ! And I even dropped it while riding my scooter in the carrying case going about 50mph. I can still remember walking back up the two lane highway with the cars whizzing past to retrieve it. Too bad that company went under. I've read on the web many horror stories though, so I guess I've been lucky.

On the other hand, a friend of mine who loves to put computers together convinced me in no uncertain terms I was getting ripped off buying a brand name computers, so he built me a desktop system from scratch. It uses a new AMD chip, fancy motherboard, fancy graphics etc. etc...

I still get calls at work from one of the kids which goes something like this "there is something wrong with the computer dad, it went blue and won't play Barbie Secret Agent".
