As it becomes clear that Bush has squandered our foreign prestige and influence, squandered our military capability and our squandered our capacity to maintain a high standard of living without exceeding our means of earning that living, Americans will sadly discover what 8 years of bad judgement and bullcrap have cost them.

Rough: I think you miss my point. Mr. Cheney is the one who went of Meet the Press back in 1993 and made a number of predictions about how we would be received in Iraq, the need for post-hostility forces, lack of insurgency, etc. Isn't it legitimate to point out that this man and his boss have been wrong again and again on their predictions for this conflict? I think it goes right to credibility. Sometimes a catchphrase serves to focus the moment in time...and hindsight then tells us whether the speaker got it right or was either unwilling or unable to see what was really happening. "I am not a crook", "It depends what the meaning of is is", "read my lips"....all spoken by people who just did not understand that saying something like they did could, and should, carry consequences. How do our leaders make decisions? How do they weigh risks? How realistic are they about the cost/benefit of a course of action? Is Senator Hagel looney when he says the white house seems to be "making it up as it goes along"? What does making hay have to do with judging the rationality of our leader's current statements?
