Quite depressing reading, really. In particular because I believe you got most of it right. Only little hope I see is that they believe they cannot be stopped. Getting complacent always was the mother of unpleasant surprises. In this case hopefully for them.

What beats me is why are the Russians and the Chinese so interested in backing them up on their way to go nuclear?

I could think of a couple of shortsighted explanations but then again I always get that view of a real messy situation with a lot of innocent people dead and no advantage to anybody incl. Russia and PRC.
As for the French, that's another story. As long as their oysters are OK they are happy.

Maybe guys with a higher IQ understand it all better.
